Sue is the founder & Lead Facilitator of ENIGMA; an independent consultancy committed to designing & providing effective, learning spaces & forums for varied & extensive inter & intrapersonal work, including 1-1 coaching & Supervision, group & team coaching & Supervision, the training, support & Continuing Professional Development of Advanced coaches, Supervisors & facilitators.
After a 30+ year career across corporate, educational, health, charitable, not-for-profit & private sectors, Sue is currently harvesting the rich store of her learning & discovery by making Supervising coaches & Coach Supervisors as the core of her work & service.
Sue believes passionately in relationship as the container for our self & ‘other’ knowledge, growth, challenge & nurture. We only ‘see’ & ‘know’ ourselves through the eyes, experience & perception of another (after Esther Perel) In relationship, the quality of our conversations (including the ones we are having with ourselves) shape our self & ‘other’ perceptions & have a voice in defining who we are becoming.
She therefore seeks to grow & maintain long -term relationships in her own life & with her Supervisees whose lives unfold as they & Sue deepen into the work together. Sue sees Supervision as a Spiritual Practice reaching into every aspect of the exploration we may choose to submit to the discipline of curiosity & wonder.
Sue works alongside private Supervisees (many of whom she has also trained over the years) & is also the Supervisor for several organizational internal coaching pools.
Internal coaches do their coaching work alongside their full-time role, in the persistent environmental challenge of ‘impossible, inevitable & unavoidable conflict of interest’ as they seek to work with their colleague clients.
Sue feels particularly moved by the courage & discipline required to ‘hold’ this challenge & delights is supporting those who support, as along with them she appreciates & embodies her place in the system.
Sue White is an accredited Master Supervisor, Master Coach & Trainer Along with Supervising private & corporate coaches, She has the privilege of being part of the accreditation assessor for APEC applications . (Association for Professional Executive Coaches & Supervisors)
Sue has an individual National Training award in recognition of client achievements of
‘outstanding organisational & individual successes through the ‘most broad & extensive range of client interaction & support the judges had ever seen’
Sue believes that our internal journeys (as they inform our external journeys) are the most important & far reaching any of us embark upon. This central journey in every individual’s life both drives & is affected by the work we do & the relationships we build.
“One’s own self is well hidden from oneself. Of all mines of treasure, one’s own is the last to be. unearthed” Nietzsche
Therefore, this internal mine of jewels is held with awe as the work unfolds. Sue considers changes of direction, pauses & liminal Thresholds in our growing up & growing down to be the stuff of magic, mystery & transformation, our unique impact in the world.
“You are not dead yet. It is not too late to open your depths by plunging into them and drink in the life that reveals itself quietly there” Rilke
it is in welcoming, recognizing, exploring & celebrating these pivotal moments in someone’s life that Sue feels is the deepest privilege to witness, accompany & guide, as many elders have done in Sue’s own life.
“There is only 1 life you can call your own, & a thousand others you can call by any name you want. Hold to your own truth at the Centre of the image you were born with. Those who do not understand their destiny will never understand the friends they have mad or the work they have chosen” David Whyte.
How we make meaning of our choices, our dilemmas & our challenges (Gregory Bateson) are crucial to how our path unfolds.
Sue has had the privilege to work with the best in their fields over decades of study; among them….
Robert Dilts, Penny Tompkins & James Lawley, Marshall Goldsmith, Robin & Joan Shohet, Bill Plotkin PhD. David Whyte. Richard Schwarz.
Sue supplements a more traditional Supervision approach with knowledge gained from in depth personal journeys of her own, including several Vision Quests & many years of apprenticeship to Depth Psychology, Synchronicity, Poetry, & a Soul-Centric approach.
The Vision Quest is a contemporary translation of an ancient rite of passage belonging to Nature based peoples the world over. For Sue, the culmination of a year’s preparation was a 3-day solo Quest at 12,000 ft on a sacred mountain. Without food or shelter, she experienced the truth of:
“When you gaze into the abyss, the abyss also gazes into you”
Sue also Quested in the Sahara Desert, one of the harshest, most mysterious environments on earth.
Sue brings the harvest of her personal life & learning to her work. Navigating how to move from surviving to thriving has shaped several chapters in Sue’s journey.
“I’ve been living on the lip of insanity; knocking on a door. The door opens, I’ve been knocking from the inside” Rumi.
Learning to embrace & surrender to uncertainty & accepting the truth of lack of control drives her apprenticeship to the endless & profound study of ‘Not Knowing’ which Sue holds as a foundation to her client work & experience.
“Birds make great sky circles of their freedom. How do they do it? They fall, & in falling, are given wings” Rumi.
