One of those questions!

"What would you do if you knew you couldn't tail?"

It's one of those clever I've-got-you-now-do-not-pass-go-do-not-collect-a-get-out-of-jail-free card questions. The ones you can't get away from. So you engage your inner dreamer & dare to speak out loud the secret ambition you've held for the longest time.

Except when it isn't..........all of those things, or a magic licence to go out & enrol in some unlikely evening class, for example.

What I mean by that is: if I knew I couldn't fail.........what would be the point of effort, or discipline, or even believing?
Where would be the buzz in getting out of bed in the morning?
If feels a bit like that Persian curse;
"May all your dreams immediately come true"

Part of the adventure lives in what might be the 'impossible' target, ....the potentially out of reach standard. And in having a go, pitting your wits against circumstance or nature. Going into the ring like the man in the arena, to see if you've got what it takes. And not being really sure........
The thrill & the motivation is in the risk, to stake what I was born with & what I've worked for, & believed in & sacrificed for..........to see if I can........

I might fail, & that could feel anything from disappointing to devastating........but I will have been fully alive in the process.
I like the not knowing, whether I can or can't, whether I will or won't.
I like the terrifying excitement of doing whatever it is, taking an exam, having an interview, running a marathon, for as long as it takes, without quite..........knowing if I've nailed it.
I enjoy the anticipation & even the waiting, to see if the dough rose.

I like to be successful, don't we all? I love the feeling that comes unbidden when you discover you can, you did, you have.
I wouldn't claim to actually enjoy failure, but I've learned some of my deepest lessons from when I haven't.........been successful in the traditional way of thinking about success!
I like the pride that comes from looking back & knowing that I didn't let the danger of failing stand in the way of me, of my best efforts, of my life.

So take on something you want to, have dreamt of,wondered about. Set out on that adventure. Go seek......
There could be a pot of gold at the end of that rainbow.
 Or.you might 'fail'
And that might be the best thing that ever happened!

I love to notice, & to wonder & to journal on the things I wonder about: as the poet David Whyte says ~to "overhear myself saying things I didn't know I knew"
    What do you wonder?
